RickaMae has been involved as both an owner and a partner with Lucky 7 since its inception in 2001.
Originally opened as an artists co-op with seven members (hence the name), Lucky 7 the shop was lovingly given a major renovation in 2007 by RickaMae. The walls were re-painted white, special display units were added and crisp halogen lighting was installed giving it all a fresh new feel.
'L7' as it is now sometimes called is dedicated to representing artists, be they local or part of the world community, who work with recycled and/or reclaimed materials, producing unique and appealing items ... at times whimsical ... at times edgy ... often both! All manner of glorious VintageFinds too make up the magic that is Lucky 7!
RickaMae herself has been an artist for 30 years. Receiving first her B.A. from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 1976, she travelled to Central America and lived in the highlands of Guatemala, where she studied a local and traditional yet specialized type of weaving found only in the region. She then learned to master and appreciate its intricacies from the local natives ... who by then had become her close though newly made friends!
Inspired, she next returned stateside where she designed and developed a wholesale line of button jewelry which she sold through boutiques and museum shops nationwide. Starting as well to direct-market her work at crafts shows throughout the New England area, RickaMae discovered that she truly enjoyed the interaction with her customers. As with the natives in the highlands of Guatemala, many of these customers also became close friends.
The Lucky 7 'idea' now seemed to RickaMae to be both inevitable and right.
It was ... it is ... and The L7 List of Friends continues to grow!
